Twenty-Five Years of Getting It Right

There are search firms that fill positions. And then there are search firms that understand the difference between placing a candidate and finding the right person - for the role, for the organization, for the mission.

Cessna & Associates has been doing the latter for twenty-five years.

We began as a contractor to other search firms, learning the craft from the inside out. Over time, we built something of our own: a boutique consultancy with a committed focus on nonprofit and other mission-driven organizations. It's hard to imagine all this time. Although, looking at my silver-grey hair, I suppose time has a way of proving itself.

What Makes Us Good At This

Whenever I work with a candidate, I ask them: "What makes you good at your job? Those things you wouldn't necessarily put on a resume." This past weekend, maneuvering burlap in the yard to protect my garden from a late spring freeze, I found myself sitting with that same question, turned inward, toward our own work.

The answer isn't complicated, but it is deliberate.

It starts with responsibility, toward our clients who retain us, and toward the candidates who trust us to represent them honestly and well. It's our passion for this sector and the organizations that power it. It's the sheer delight we feel when we've found someone who will make all the difference to a client, and we've just witnessed the beginning of a great partnership.

And it's our dedication to authentic, detailed, careful communication - the kind that builds bridges rather than just delivering news.
